A Valentine Day Fiasco Chapter 12 – John to the rescue!

First he called his dad. He was silently praying he would pick the phone up because his dad usually put his phone on silent mode around this time of the evening. He didn’t want to disturb him but he needed his help. His dad was well connected and had the power to get the police to act.
“Hello daddy. E kale sir.” He said after his dad picked up on the third ring.
“Ah. Dele bawo ni?” his father asked.
“Mo wa pa sir. What of mummy?”
“She’s fine son.”
“Daddy I need a favor from you. My friend is in trouble. She has been kidnapped along with a friend of hers. She sent me a message telling me that.”
“Ah. Sorry o. What do you need me to do?”
“I am headed to the police station to report the kidnapping. I have called them once but it seems like the number doesn’t work anymore. It’s not going through.” John said.
“I know you are well respected in the police ranks. Could you please get them to do something about it? Call the IG or something.”
“Hmmn Dele. This friend of yours must be something for you to be willing to ask for me to use my influence to help you find her. Alright. I will help you.”
“What police station are you heading to?”
John told his dad. His dad then told him he would call the IG. Asked him to just go and do the reporting at the police station then go home to rest.
“I know you have had a long day. Just go and rest after reporting at the station. The police will find her and I will make sure of that.”
“Yes dad. I will try. Thank you sir.”
“Goodnight daddy.”
“Goodnight Dele. Try to sleep. They must find her. Take care.”
“You too sir”
John was a bit relieved. He go to the police station and found the police on duty looking so haggard and sleepy. At that moment he couldn’t believe that this were the people he was expecting to rescue Cynthia but his dad had assured him they will. He could only hope his dad knew what he was saying. He reported the crime to them showed them the text message and somehow they took him seriously. In fact it was like they had been expecting him, although quite sleepy. He left the police station and went home. As he lay on his bed, he couldn’t sleep. He kept tossing and turning. He was so worried about Cynthia. When the sleep finally came, it was fitful and restless. It was going to be a very long night.
“Get out of the car.” The burly taxi driver said when the car stopped.
“And no funny business. If you try anything, I will not hesitate to shoot you.” He added.
Cynthia came out of the car. She looked at Rachel who seemed to have disappeared as they were being taken to God knows where. Rachel was so quiet. She looked like she was in shock and had retreated into a shell. She had never been strong minded, she just usually made a lot of noise but was actually faint hearted. Cynthia hoped she wouldn’t pass out. During their forced journey her Cynthia had done some thinking. This was the second time in three months she was being kidnapped. She started wondering who she had offended. Her family was not so wealthy. Her parents seemed to have no enemies so why was she being targeted? She was beginning to regret not pressing charges the first time it happened. She had somehow just forgotten about it. She didn’t understand what was happening but she was sure of one thing. They were going to survive this. Somehow. She could only hope their help would come a bit faster.
The man shoved them into an uncompleted building in a wide expanse of bushy land. It look so eerie with the pitch black darkness. There was no provision to run. In fact, they would be better off if they stayed with their captors.
In the dimly lit building she saw a bunch of men standing together. She scanned their faces to see if she knew any of them. While skimming through their faces she found a face she thought was familiar. She had seen the man before but she couldn’t remember where.
Meanwhile a slight argument had ensued between the criminals.
“You idiot!” one of the men screamed to the driver.
“Where is the main person you were supposed to bring? Na this person we tell you say make you carry?”
“But shey na you say….” The driver said before someone interrupted him.
“Take them in and locked them up before you start your dumb argument you bloody idiots.” The second man shouted.
At that they pushed them to a room and bound their hands and legs. She could only when they would decide to call their families for a ransom and how much they would ask for. She turned to Rachel and saw her still quiet.
“Rachel are you still here?”
“Yea I am” Rachel said after a period of silence.
“I am so scared though. That’s why I haven’t said anything since. You’re sure help would come? Because it looks like we are in the middle of nowhere.” She continued.
“I am positive Rachel. Help is coming.” Cynthia said.

I hope, she added whispering to herself.
